We at Borealis believe that every employee deserves to feel comfortable bringing their true self to work. We are of the opinion that only when you feel comfortable, can you do your very best. Today, on Christopher Street Day, we want to remind ourselves of our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) ambitions. We promote a Borealis that is gender-equal, free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A Borealis where difference is valued and celebrated. What is Christopher Street Day and why does it matter?

28 June marks Christopher Street Day (CSD) – an annual European LGBTQ+ celebration and demonstration to promote LGBTQ+ community rights. The CSD is held in memory of the Stonewall Riots, the first big uprising of LGBTQ+ people against police assaults that took place at the Stonewall Inn – a bar on New York City's Christopher Street – on June 28, 1969.

In 1970, marches to mark the first anniversary of Stonewall were held in Chicago, San Francisco, New York and L.A. Ever since, it has become an international tradition to march for the rights of LGBTQ+ people in the summer and June has internationally become Pride Month.

What is Pride (Month)?

Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship commemorating LGBTQ+ rights, and how much work still needs to be done. Pride Month is not just about festivals, rainbows, and glitter. The movement and the cause are serious, and support bringing people together. In the spirit of inclusion, everybody is welcome to join and support the movement.

Let us all collectively #BreakTheBias and remind ourselves not only during Pride Month, but every month, that every employee can and should feel safe around the world.
