Meet our Talent Acquisition Specialist Renate Kaufmann

I joined Borealis in September 2018 and I am responsible for vacancies in our Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria, and our production facility in Burghausen, Germany. Besides, I have been responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of our “recruiter's treasure box” - our Applicant Tracking System, SuccessFactors Recruiting. This tool enables us to handle our recruitments electronically and serves as our candidate database.

Teenage Renate thought that her dream job is in advertising, creating catchy and creative campaigns. Little did I know back then that I am not the wildly creative type but that I am actually best with customers and with service-oriented and organizational tasks. I have a degree in Communications and worked in sales and customer support in different sectors for a few years. Then - finally - in 2010, I combined all of my interests and strengths in what I would call ‘my professional passion’, Talent Acquisition.

When I am not in the Borealis office and with candidates or hiring managers, I am a passionate cook and “crazy cat lady”. I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends and stay up way too late most nights because there is just not enough time otherwise to get through my (audio) books.

What was your dream job as a child? As a child, I wanted to become a Veterinarian.

What impresses you in a candidate? Since I am genuinely interested in everyone I meet, I find something that impresses me in every candidate and his or her story.

What is the best part of your work? The mix of being with people but also doing some projects in the background.

Which question do you ask in every interview? Every person is different and while it’s, of course, important to keep consistency and structure in interviews, I don’t have this one question for everyone. Well, except availability and salary but those are to be expected, right?

What is it you enjoy about working with Borealis? I am talking to people from all over the world almost every single day, no matter if it’s colleagues or candidates. I enjoy our open and international culture a lot. And finally, I appreciate the fact that Borealis wants to make a difference for our world and that I get to be a part of this mission.

What is your #1 advice for everybody applying with Borealis? Get familiar with our values. They are not just words - we do live by them every day.
