Expert (m/f/d) Mechanical and/or Solvent-based Recycling Technology Development

About the role

Location: Preferred Austria, Linz or alternatively in Finland, Porvoo or Sweden, Stenungsund

Hours: Full-Time

Type of Contract: Permanent

We are currently looking for a talent to join our R&D who is eager to explore possibilities and develop technologies in the areas of mechanical and solvent-based polymer recycling – with questions around polymer feedstock, its pre-treatment and recycling process technologies in general.

Borealis aspires to lead the transformation to a truly circular and sustainable economy across all our applications. Innovation has always played a vital role for us and we are truly committed to transitioning from the linear model to the circular model of recycling, re-use and designing for recyclability.

We are inviting talents to join us on this journey, who are eager to explore possibilities in this still relatively new field of technology and agile business and who want to literally “Go beyond boundaries. Together.” with us.

  • You will be scouting, evaluating and driving technologies for the handling of polymer waste feedstock and its pre-treatment, recycling process technologies as well as equipment for second generation mechanical recycling and other related topics.
  • On the one hand, this is a hands-on role dealing with topics together with operations and management of our recycling plants in Germany and Austria. You will be able to get “your hands dirty”, to be on site and dare to apply the principle of “trial and error” while finding solutions that will drive our recycling business forward.
  • On the other hand, this is a role in R&D that allows you to contribute to our innovation strategy by using your business acumen and your strategic and analytical thinking. You will provide techno-economical evaluations and you will collaborate closely with our R&D community as well as with marketing, IPR and externally with academia.
  • You will deliver efficient processes with focus on cost and performance as well as maximized feedstock yield and minimal environmental impact (contaminants, energy, CO2 emissions).

About you

We are looking for you holding a Master’s or PhD degree (polymer, mechanical, process engineering) and having background in mechanical and/or solvent-based recycling. This background could come from academia or also from your professional experience in the recycling industry, extrusion/compounding, equipment design etc.

We are also interested in hearing from you, if your background is in chemical process engineering (R&D focus) favoring the “mechanical side of things” and if you are eager to develop in the direction of this role. In this case, any polymer or even polyolefin knowledge will be a benefit of course.

The circular economy is keeping us busy – so no matter if you are already a recycling expert or if want to develop in this direction, we will always have the right kind of challenge and growth area for you as well as other experts and scientists for knowledge exchange!

Since our company language is English, you need to be fluent on business level. Any knowledge of the German language is a bonus.

You are ready to face the challenges (but also enjoy the advantages) of an agile environment, which often requires some out-of-the-box-thinking and the willingness to take bold decisions.
