Computational Material Science is nowadays standard in Application Development and becomes increasingly relevant for Product Development. It delivers reliable predictions of polymer and compound properties by means of the constituents and underlying inner structures.


Therefore, we offer a role in Computational Material Science and Application Engineering in which you will be an integrated member of our R&D community – more precisely the Digital Innovation team.


To support business, you will advise Borealis customers with advanced material know how, information, material data and material models. You will perform advanced numerical simulation in the field of thermo-mechanics and polymer conversion to provide new solutions for applications to our customers. You will also become a member of cross-functional teams, working in R&D projects in the fields of continuum mechanics and conversion. You will closely cooperate with peers within Borealis like our labs and Application Halls but also external partners like universities and research institutes.


Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Applying, maintaining and further developing simulation methodologies in the fields of thermo-mechanics and conversion
  • Providing method support in Business and R&D projects
  • Advising Borealis customers with advanced material information, data and material models via simulation methodologies applied
  • Planning, executing, leading and connecting R&D project tasks
  • Maintaining and developing further procedures and routines to serve our customers in  Specialty Business
  • Publishing latest innovations in agreement with our IPR team and R&D community
  • Actively maintaining a close internal and external network with universities, research institutes and software suppliers  

About you


We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in the field of polymer physics, continuum mechanics and polymer conversion technologies.


You hold a Ph.D. degree in Polymer Physics or Engineering or in case of master education 5+ year experience in relevant fields.


For this role, you need to have excellent knowledge of continuum mechanics, polymer physics and conversion as well as numerical simulation (Finite Element Methods and coding). On top, you need to be knowledgeable about application engineering, material testing, laboratory equipment and polymer conversion technologies.


You need to be fluent in our company language English. You welcome a role that allows you to be in frequent contact with customers and in which you can put your communication and presentations skills to good use. You have a talent for translating observations into clear and useful explanations.


Overall, you are an analytical and conceptional thinker who applies the principles of scientific rigor in their daily work. You enjoy consulting and sharing widely within the company as well as with external scientists, researchers and other partners.

Following Austrian law regulations, we offer, reflecting your experiences, skills and competencies, competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 52.204,04 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background. In addition, we offer a yearly bonus and a voluntary company pension plan.
