Scientist (m/f/d) Process Engineering | Focus Comp. Fluid Dynamics (CFD) & Reaction Engineering

About the role

Location: Austria - Linz

Hours: Full-Time

Type of Contract: Permanent

Process simulation with focus on computational fluid dynamics and reaction kinetics becomes increasingly relevant for Borealis. Therefore, we offer a job opportunity in process simulation as an integrated member of our R&D community – more precisely the Digital Innovation team.

In this role, you will be a member of cross-functional teams, working in close co-operation within R&D, Operations as well as with universities and research institutes. You will scientifically support defined R&D project needs by applying process know how and advanced computational methods. Moreover, you are asked to further strengthen modelling capabilities for Borealis core technologies. Therefore, a close co-operation within our R&D community and Operations is vital. For Borealis Operations, you will actively apply process simulation methods to improve process safety, reliability and profitability.

Advanced process simulation techniques nowadays allow the coupling of fluid dynamics to multi-physics and multi-scale approaches. Consequently, process simulations are very often multidisciplinary where numerical solutions for polymer reaction kinetics, particle physics, thermo-mechanics or acoustics are closely embedded in the final solutions.

Moreover, you will be member of a team at the interface of Borealis polymerization labs, pilot and full scale operations and university co-operations. As an example for the success of  a recent university co-operation, please have a look at this LINK.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Applying, maintaining and further developing methods in the fields of process simulation and polymer reaction engineering
  • Providing scientific support in R&D and Borealis Operations projects
  • Maintaining and developing procedures and routines for the simulation of Borealis core technologies
  • Publishing latest innovations in agreement with our IPR team and R&D community
  • Actively maintaining a close internal and external network with universities, research institutes and software suppliers

About you

We are looking for a talented individual with strong background in the field of process engineering, computational fluid dynamics and reaction kinetics.

You hold a Ph.D. degree in Process Engineering or in case of master education 5+ year experience in relevant fields.

For this role, you need to have excellent knowledge of computational fluid dynamics, reaction engineering, continuum mechanics as well as numerical methods. You also have good knowledge of the polymer and base chemicals’ value chain. You need to be fluent in our company language English.

You enjoy a role that includes quite some internal and external cooperation, steering and knowledge sharing. For this purpose, you are a good communicator, presenter and if necessary also negotiator. You know how to translate observations into clear and useful explanations. Overall, you are an analytical and conceptional thinker who applies the principles of scientific rigor in their daily work.
