Senior Expert Process Technology and Polyolefin Catalyst Scale-up (m/f/d)

We are currently looking for an expert with a high level of seniority in technology and business related aspects in the area of chemical engineering and chemical processes to join our R&D community in our Competence Centre “Process Technology and Chemistry”.


In this role, you will drive improvements in the respective area within Borealis to leading edge and in accordance with our business and innovation strategy. You will make links between research and our commercial drivers to ensure Borealis’ cost- and technological leadership by developing a broad intellectual property base. Our three R&D centres in Austria, Finland and Sweden with more than 500 employees in total and continuous investments in R&D - as well as our overall company strategy - show the importance of R&D and innovation for Borealis.

Reporting directly to the head of the competence centre, you will:

  • Drive the implementation of the Borealis innovation strategy and contribute to its translation into innovation programs
  • Lead and coordinate research and technology development in the area of Process Technology and Chemical Engineering with a focus on Polyolefin Catalyst Scale-up from lab to industrial scale
  • Use your business acumen for techno-economical evaluations and to understand the commercial implications of technical solutions
  • Build up and provide your expertise in a broad area along the full chain from catalyst and process to polymer - covering development, production and use
  • Share your expertise with researchers with different level of experience by acting as a mentor and coach
  • Lead and report new technology trends and prepare conclusions and recommendations
  • Closely cooperate with different functions such as marketing and customers, engineering and design, IPR etc. as well as externally with universities or other partners
  • Impact research, technology and application development including supervision and control of step-change solutions

About you

We are looking for you, if you hold a PhD in process technology and / or chemical engineering, or alternatively have a MSc degree combined with a long experience with relevant field. You need to have deep knowledge and understanding in process technology, polymer production, catalysis and in general in the hydrocarbon and petrochemical area - coming from education and around 20 years of industry experience. Since our company language is English, you need to be fluent on business level. We are open to welcome an expert who is ready to relocate to one of the above-mentioned locations, preferably Austria, and we offer relocation support / work permit support if needed.

We are looking for a senior expert with a scientific profile and growth- and business mindset, who is able to look at the bigger picture and the details at the same time. On the one hand, you like to use your expertise to influence a company’s strategy, to set direction and to drive innovation. On the other hand, you also see yourself as a mentor to the R&D community who is always willing to listen, coach, share expertise and set standards for knowledge sharing.

We offer a role specific compensation and a competitive salary and fringe benefit package reflecting your profile, experience and the specifics of the country/location you apply for. Following Austrian law regulations, we offer, reflecting your experiences, skills and competencies, competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 69 735,96 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background. In addition, we offer a yearly bonus and a voluntary company pension plan.
