Role Purpose: This position is a key project/program development role within the Borealis NA Automotive Business team. The Application Development Engineer (ADE) will have accountability for managing current and future development programs and opportunities at key OEM (original equipment manufacturer), Tier I and Tier II customers (system integrators and custom molders). Responsible for customer on-site injection molding technical assistance and providing practical solutions. You will also design experiments, testing methods, and schedule implementations to resolve issues.
Area of responsibility
• Developing and executing key developmental programs consistent with the One PO Business strategy at selected key OEM and Tier I & II accounts
• On-site injection molding technical assistance and problem resolution
• Developing and managing key customer relationships as well as broadening the number of key customers
• Developing new business opportunities for new polymer products consistent with the business plan, i.e. program management
• Solving customer problems as they relate to Borealis materials
• Understanding and communicating customer needs and market/industry trends to the Account Manager and the Polymers Business
• Managing complex business strategies, new product offerings and coordinating engineering activities with select customers
• Conducting customer product evaluations
• Interfacing new product developments with the customer and positioning Borealis materials as the products of choice by key customers
• Monitoring and understanding the competitive situation at key customers and coordinating counter measures with Account Manager and Product Development
• Obtaining material approval to automotive specifications
• Meeting or exceeding project targets and individual performance goals
People
• The Application Development Engineer will be a member of the NA Automotive Business Team that consists of teams of Account Managers and Application Development Engineers/Managers. These teams will work together in conjunction with Product Development to qualify Borealis materials (i.e. PP and TPO) to current and future automotive specifications, to obtain approval of Borealis materials to these specifications, and to generate value sales opportunities.
• The ADE will often times be assigned as a member of key customer project/program teams and will represent Borealis at customer program team meeting
Customer
• Prompt response to customer requests
• Improve commercial position by developing close customer relationship
Interfaces
• The key interfaces are with the NA Automotive Business Team and Product Development
About you
Education
• BS/BA Degree (chemical, plastics, or mechanical engineering)
• Mastery Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Experience
• 5+ years of direct industry experience
• Excellent planning and organizational skills, good communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Proven history of project management (i.e. delivery of results)
• Must be a self-starter and understand the "Value Proposition," technically competent to provide engineering support for customer projects
• Knowledge of the automotive and plastics industry, with:
o demonstrated accomplishments of key program management (automotive and plastics industry)
o solid level of industry contacts
o knowledge of polypropylene, TPO, and competitive plastics
o engineering experience in part design and material recommendations
o knowledge of tool design
o solid knowledge of the injection molding process and other plastic processes
o able to conduct molding evaluations
o knowledge of Moldflow and CAD (computer aided design) technology
