HSE Coordinator

The purpose of this position is to be actively involved in the development and follow-up of actions supporting the implementation of the HSE (Responsible Care)-policy. The role  cooperates with peers in the identification of risks in their area of responsibility.  Provides advice in projects and changes to equipment and installations.

This position supports the Regulatory Compliance Programs at Borealis Compounds Inc., (Port Murray, NJ).  The primary responsibilities include Safety Compliance (Accident Prevention and Investigation, employee training, compliance auditing, PPE acquisition, etc.), The position is required to be available for Emergency Response Planning and implementation, as required.  

•    Focus on day to day operation and support implementation of procedures/best practices in area of responsibility
•    Contribute to long and short term health and safety strategies and targets 
•    Ensure leading performance / position in HSE by giving advice and expertise to help the organization to meet it’s objectives
•    Transform procedures, targets and implementation plans to local level (review and intreperate corporate BMS documents)
•    Monitor and evaluate the performance, develops improvements needs, supports the implementation and prepares the relevant internal and external reports
•    Facilitate consistent implementation of health and safety initiatives locally
•    Knowledge to generate/acquire safety data sheets (SDS’s) for raw materials and finished products.  
•    Monitor Training activities and needs of site personnel.  Assist Safety training, as required, and provide support for training of new hires.  This may require the incumbent to become certified to instruct on various safety topics such as Forklift Operation, Emergency Response, Respirator Program, first aid and CPR
•    Conduct periodic “Safety Audits”.  
•    Annual safety related reporting to NJ RTK, Federal SARA Form R, NJ DEQ 114, RPPR, P2-115 
•    Environmental Compliance 
•    Ensure follow up of all development in the respective area from local, national legislation Monitor Water and Wastewater chemistry to ensure compliance to statues.  Complete timely reporting to regulatory agencies.  Monitor cost of the systems including state fees and laboratory costs.  Working knowledge of Ground water and surface water regulation and reading test results to be reported. 
•    Hazardous Waste Disposal -  Identification, transportation and disposal of Hazardous Waste in compliance with Federal, State, and Local Statutes.  Position requires 40-hour HAZWOPER Training and 8 hour annual refreshers.
•    NJ Hazardous Waste Generators Report.
•    Air permit reporting 
•    Solid Waste Disposal- Annual Trash Analysis, permit approval and records maintenance.  Compliance with applicable state and federal standards, RCRA.
•    Training activities and needs of site personnel.  Assist environmental training, as required, and provide support for training of new hires.  

About you

•    Bachelor’s Degree from acknowledged university in Sciences, Environmental, or equivalent and applicable experience
•    First aid/CPR certification
•    40 hours HAZWOPER Training
•    Respirator “Competent” Person
•    3-5 years of relevant industrial experience
•    Knowledge of HSE evaluation tools
•    Knowledge of world class HSE standards, systems and performance
•    Recognized for being communicating, dialogue engaging, inspiring, motivating and setting direction for others within a multicultural environment
