We provide solutions for a better tomorrow and we are looking for you who likes to do the same. As a member of our IPR team, you will provide intellectual property (IP) counselling and support to an organization with a high focus on innovation.
 
Our IPR team, with almost 20 experts and administrative support, is located in our Innovation Centres in Linz (Austria), Stenungsund (Sweden) and Porvoo (Finland) as well as in Beringen (Belgium).
 
We are now looking for you who can combine your professional attorney skills with high commercial awareness to drive, in close collaboration with R&D teams, product managers and other parts of the organization, the use of IPR as a business tool in the best interest of Borealis. Depending on your technical background and experience, you will be assigned a patent portfolio and you will counsel our business units to ensure solid protection as well as freedom-to-operate for new technology. 
 
In this role, you will 

  • perform patentability assessments.
  • draft and file patent applications, either directly or via external service providers, in close collaboration with inventors and in alignment with overall business and IP strategies.
  • prosecute national/regional and international patent applications, either directly or via external service providers.
  • represent Borealis in patent examination, opposition and appeal proceedings, either directly or via external service providers.
  • provide freedom-to-operate (FTO) investigations, validity assessments and opinions as well as risk mitigation in relation thereto.

About you

We foster a positive and proactive attitude, encourage ownership of tasks and are looking for you who has the ability to communicate complex IP matters in a clear manner, who has good collaborations skills and the ability to drive team-dependent tasks forward. 
 
Qualifications:

  • Scientific technical degree (M.Sc. / Ph.D.), preferably in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry and/or chemical engineering
  • Qualified European or US Patent Attorney. Partly EQE qualified candidates with at least two passed exams are also encouraged to apply
  • 3+ years of professional experience at in-house patent department and/or in private practice
  • English at professional level

We offer a role specific compensation and a competitive salary plus a yearly bonus, a voluntary company pension plan and hybrid working. In detail, the salary package will reflect your profile, experience and the specifics of the country/location you apply for. In Austria and following Austrian law regulations, we offer, reflecting your experiences, skills and competencies, competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 73.112,90 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background.
