As Operations Manager Base Chemicals and Polyolefins at Borealis, you are responsible for the operational excellence performance of our plants in Kallo and Zwijndrecht. 

 

In this key role, you will be part of the local management team and report to the Site Manager. You will lead a team of 6-7 direct reports and oversee a total of 250 employees within operations. Additionally, you serve as the crucial link between the Group level and the local operations, ensuring alignment with company-wide strategies and best practices.

Your main responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with your team and the local management to define the 5-year business plan, using benchmarking and supporting the overall Borealis operations strategy in safety, OAE, EBIT contribution, energy and climate. Based on this plan, you develop a clear implementation strategy with SMART targets.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on lean leadership, waste elimination, and value creation.
  • Ensure plants operate and report in full compliance with national HSE laws and regulations, as well as the Borealis HSEQ Management System.
  • Coach, mentor, and empower your team to achieve individual and collective goals while nurturing a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and sustainability.
  • Work closely with key departments such as HSE, Maintenance, Engineering etc. to ensure smooth operations and successful project execution, always maintaining strong communication and cooperation across departments.
  • Manage projects up to €10 million, overseeing strategic planning, budget management, timelines and communication.
  • Foster a positive and open work environment, actively engaging with various internal and external stakeholders.

About you

We’re looking for a results-driven Operations Manager with a passion for safety, efficiency and continuous improvement.

 

You should have:

  • A master’s degree in chemical engineering or another relevant field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in the chemical industry, including managerial experience.
  • Good knowledge of Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
  • The ability to provide a clear vision and strategy for operational excellence and long-term success.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with proven success in leading projects through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Exceptional people skills, with the ability to coach, provide feedback, and create an environment where innovation, sustainability, and teamwork are central.
  • A strong focus on HSEQ, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
