Act as the key link between Borealis’s HSE (Health Safety & Environment) strategic policy and it’s daily implementation at the Rockport (Port Murray, NJ) facility.
Play a leadership role in supporting the day-to-day HSE operations and promotion a strong safety culture.
Primary responsibilities include regulatory and internal safety compliance, using tools such as Engagement Walks, Employee Training, and active floor presence.
Conducts daily site walkthroughs, audits, and inspections to proactively identify hazards and risks. Follows up with appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of site-specific HSE programs and procedures, ensuring consistent application and compliance.
Utilizes B-Safe (Borealis’s behavior-based safety program) and enforces adherence to the Borealis Life Saving Rules to promote employee health, workplace safety, process safety, and environmental compliance.
Contributes to maintaining OSHA and EPA compliance across site operations.
Maintains the HSE employee training program, with a focus on new hire orientation, annual refreshers, and periodic training requirements.
Supports the Occupational Health Professional in incident response and investigations, including documentation and follow-up.
Drives continuous improvement in site operations by promoting proactive safety practices and risk reduction.
Ensures that company values, ethical principles and compliance rules as set out in the Borealis Ethics Policy are integrated in all employment-related activities.
About you
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
First Aid / CPR / AED certification required (or ability to obtain).
OSHA certification preferred, including: OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry or Construction), or HAZWOPER 24/40-Hour
Completion of OSHA 511: Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry is a strong asset.
EXPERIENCE IN THE ROLE: 3-5 years of manufacturing or industrial experience.
Strong understanding of technical regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and local/state safety requirements.
Skilled in investigations, including use of root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys.
Proficient in developing and implementing safety strategies and solutions.
Deep knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—its proper use, benefits, and limitations.
Detail-oriented and organized, with a strong problem-solving mindset.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable leading safety meetings, conducting spot training, and engaging with employees at all levels.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
